Applied Endocrinology explores the vital role hormones play in regulating virtually every aspect of human health, from metabolism, growth, stress adaptation, sleep, digestion, appetite, reproduction, and healthy aging. Through an in-depth examination of the endocrine system, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of how hormones influence both normal physiology and common health conditions. Topics include the hypothalamus, pituitary, thyroid, adrenal glands, pancreas, reproductive hormones, calcium metabolism, circadian rhythm, appetite regulation, and environmental hormones. Students will also explore the hormonal influences underlying conditions such as diabetes, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, osteoporosis, adrenal dysfunction, PMS, menopause, PCOS, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and hormone-sensitive cancers, while examining the roles of nutritional strategies, hormone supplementation, and environmental factors in supporting endocrine health.
