1. What brought you to study Holistic Nutrition at IHN?

My relationship with food started early. As the eldest of four siblings, I was cooking family dinners before I was even a teenager. That love of feeding people followed me into a hospitality management degree, where cooking classes almost convinced me to switch into culinary arts. But I realized I loved creating my own recipes more than following someone else’s. A decade later I pivoted into the music industry, where I wrote a business plan combining food trucks with live events. Food and bringing people together kept showing up in everything I did.

Then, I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease and everything changed. What started as a heavy blow to my identity became a turning point. I threw myself into learning how nutrition could help me manage my autoimmune condition while still making food I loved. When I blended my family and started cooking for two kids with different tastes, meal planning became my superpower. After reaching a dead end in my career, I realized all roads had been leading me here. Holistic nutrition felt like the natural next step to turn a lifetime of personal experience into something that could help other families too.

2. What professions have you worked in prior to enrolling at IHN?

I worked in hospitality for about 10 years, then another 10 years in the music industry.

3. What degrees or academic achievements did you have prior to IHN?

I studied in hospitality management and in music business, with a short course in Tour & Tech Management.

4. What are your goals/aspirations as a CNP?

I want to start my own Meal Planning/Prep company to help families who struggle with dietary restrictions and weeknight dinner struggles.

Having been diagnosed with Celiac Disease about 8 years ago, I went from someone who loved attending food events and trying different cuisines to feeling completely limited. I had to learn how to recreate my favourite dishes and make them good enough that my family didn’t even notice the difference. When my partner’s two kids came into my life, I learned to streamline meals for a whole household with different tastes and needs.

That experience showed me how much stress meal planning can relieve for families, knowing what’s for dinner each night saved us money, reduced anxiety, and made our home run smoother. I want to bring that to other families navigating dietary restrictions or chaos of weeknight dinners.

5. What has been your personal best achievement?

Raising my 2 step-kids into the amazing teenagers they are today.

Starting my own business when I graduate from IHN is definitely something that scares me, but I think that will be my best and biggest achievement of all times!

6. What is something you overcame in your life, that you didn’t think you could?

Two things, really. The first was my Celiac Disease diagnosis in my early 30s. That challenge is actually what deepened my passion for nutrition.

The second is being a student. I never liked being a student and never thought I was great at it. I always believed you learn best in the field. But I always keep going back to school to continue learning. In my mid-20s I went back to school for a degree in Music Business Administration and graduated with honours. Now in my 40s, I’m back again studying something I’ve always been passionate about, nutrition.

7. What is something about you that would surprise people?

I have a blue belt in karate!

8. Is there anything you would like to share about your experience at IHN so far?

I have to say that Professional Practice and Professional Skills have been the 2 classes that have helped me progress the most in starting my business. Jesse is an amazing mentor and the work that we do in her classes are so relevant to the “real world”. I am also very happy that she started her mentorship program that I recently joined.
