Most memorable moment at IHN
There are countless and several exciting moments at IHN, but the one that has impacted me the most was my first day of school because I was able to meet like-minded and passionate individuals as well as the amazing group mediation, that’s when it sunk in, “I’m home”. Another memory that impacted me was the field trip to an organic farm in north Toronto. I had the opportunity to learn about sustainable agriculture, solar energy, and the importance of crop rotation. While weeding between the crop lines along with my classmates I got to meet students from other campuses and learn about their wellness journeys and their plans for the future.
Towards the end of the day we toured around the farm and got to pick fresh kale and other vegetables right from the crops which made me feel truly connected to the soil and ultimately understand that the quality of the food we eat depends on the health of the soil it grows in. This experience was very special since I was six months pregnant at that time, and it sparked my interest in growing my own food with sustainable practices to leave a legacy to improve the nutrition, quality of life and environment for future generations, including my daughter.
Favorite class at IHN
It is difficult to choose one favorite class since I liked so many, I know this sounds cliché but it is the honest truth. The classes I enjoyed the most were Psychology of Disease and Nutritional Symptomatology Part 2. Psychology of Disease provided me with a better understanding about how our energy field can become weakened and ultimately lead to physical ailments unless we remove negative thought and lifestyle patterns that keep us in a state of illness. In addition to this, my ultimate favorite course was Nutritional Symptomatology Part 2, because this was the moment where all of my learning culminated and came together for me, this is where I felt empowered and confident in becoming a passionate practitioner! Even though this class was very challenging and required a lot of work, I was able to formulate protocols for specific health conditions along with lifestyle recommendations. Our instructor provided us with a wealth of knowledge and practical clinical experience to better guide our learning.
Currently doing in the field of Holistic Nutrition
Currently, I am the owner and founder of Vitaflow Holistic Wellness where I offer online nutrition services. I specialize in women’s health, particularly hormonal balance, endocrinology issues (thyroid and adrenal concerns), weight loss, fertility and digestive health. My programs consist of comprehensive tailored meal plans, fitness, supplementation and lifestyle recommendations. At the same time, I work full time hours as a Registered Nurse at a busy private clinic with patients with autoimmune and gastrointestinal diseases such as Crohn’s, colitis and arthritic diseases, therefore my medical background has allowed me to have firsthand experience understanding the conventional treatments for these common diseases which allows me to integrate my knowledge into a more holistic approach with my clients. Also, I am able to provide blood work interpretation, and medication overview to my clients to discern possible interactions with herbal and natural supplements which ultimately allows me to formulate better and more effective programs for my Vitaflow clients. I believe that health care practitioners need to integrate conventional and alternative practices to offer the best possible treatment and long lasting results to individuals suffering from health diseases. Unfortunately I am not seeing this trend in the conventional health care system, but this fuels me further because I see such a need in marrying both a holistic and conventional medical treatment program to not only treat the condition but make the changes required to target the cause. Moreover, I am in the process of launching my own line of gemstone healing jewelry and essential oils to complement my wellness programs to offer to my clients other alternatives for stress management, pain, and digestive issues to mention a few while achieving their health goals.
